Father/Son Failure

hawkinsxAfter another Colorado loss against Kansas State coming off a big win against Kansas a week ago, Dan Hawkins showed us once again that the father/son combo is the greatest failure in Colorado football.  After upsetting a ranked Kansas team where we got to see Tyler Hansen play a whole game, I cannot seem to understand why Cody Hawkins saw the field today.

Who I feel bad for the most is Tyler Hansen.  First off, his redshirt was taken off again.  He has a coach who believes his son is a better choice to have, even after taking another year of eligibility away from Tyler.  He gets yanked as soon as Colorado falls behind for the coach’s son who ends up throwing two picks and no production.

Cody Hawkins is not a Big 12 quarterback.  He is too small, not mobile, and is a turnover machine.  The only reason he is playing big time division 1 football is because his father is the head coach.  The idea of the coach and son was nice when it started, but when it is an obvious failure and we ask ourselves week after week when will it end?  It will end the moment Cody Hawkins graduates from Colorado.  We will not see a season where the coach’s son is the backup; Hawk won’t do that or actually thinks his son is the best option.  It has gone beyond a football thing, it is a family thing.  If you are a potential big time QB coming out of high school, why would you even consider coming to Colorado when you see what we saw today.  We didn’t see Cody against Kansas because they were in Boulder and controlled most of the game.

It’s sad to see how far Colorado Football has fallen because of a father/son combo that won’t end until the son graduates.  When there is so much instable decision making going on before, during, and after games, it is almost impossible for any team to win and win consistently.  What needs to be done?  Tyler needs to take every snap from here on out.  Will it happen?  I can almost say with 100% certainty that it won’t.  It’s not a football thing, it’s a family thing.

One Response to “Father/Son Failure”

  1. [...] should have been. Never the touches he deserved and never the coaching he needed. Not only has the father/son experiment has failed for Colorado, but now top recruits can’t even stand to play here [...]
